?The origins of Hexagon Metrology GmbH, previously know as "Leitz Messtechnik", in Wetzlar, Germany, date back more than one and a half centuries:

1849 Carl Kellner establishes the "Optische Institut" in Wetzlar.
1869 Ernst Leitz takes over the "Optische Institut" and calls it "Ernst Leitz".
1925 Leitz starts serial production of the first 35mm camera
"Leica I", Leica stands for Leitz Camera.
1986 "Ernst Leitz Wetzlar GmbH" and "WILD Heerbrugg" merge to the WILD LEITZ group.
1990 WILD LEITZ and Cambridge Instruments merge into LEICA.
1990 The division "Industrial Metrology IMT" is separated as Leitz Messtechnik GmbH. New owner becomes Brown & Sharpe.
1994 Renamed to Leitz-Brown & Sharpe GmbH
1998 Renamed to Brown & Sharpe GmbH
2003 The company is part of the Hexagon Metrology group and is called "Leitz Messtechnik GmbH" again.

As a medium sized company Hexagon Metrology GmbH is focussed on development and manufacturing of high precision Leitz Coordinate Measuring Machines and Gear Testers. Our Leitz machines cover all measuring ranges, from standard sizes up to very large machines with strokes up to 7000 x 4000 x 3000 mm.
If it's the tiny gear of a mechanical wrist watch or a huge ship diesel engine or even a whole satellite:
Parts of any size are measured on Leitz Coordinate Measuring Machines, and always with maximum precision.

Together with QUINDOS software not only standard parts, but almost all special geometries such as spiral bevel gears, worms, step gears etc. can be measured and evaluated. Leitz Gear Measuring Technology turns coordinate measuring machines into high throughput gear testers!

For quality control in the shop floor Hexagon Metrology GmbH offers high speed, shop hardened measuring robots.
